WHAT IS THE
Prime Ministers’ Sporting Oration?
INSPIRING THE NATION
The Prime Ministers Sporting Oration (PMSO) provides the platform and so opportunity for our former Prime Minister to inspire our nation through the language of our country - sport.
Seeded in and overseen by the Australian Sports Foundation, the inaugural event will be held for the first time on the 21st November 2018, at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.
The event will include dinner with your attendance.
A PLATFORM FOR CHANGE - THROUGH SPORT
In this age of rapid change, weakening of traditional institutional influence, shifting values combined with the speed of advancement of technology, there has never been a louder cry and stronger need for sound leadership.
We have seen this unfold in the Australian sporting landscape with challenges such as ball tampering, the taking of performance enhancing supplements and drugs, and most recently inspirational, adored and admired leaders falling foul to the ills of recreational (illicit) drugs.
The time is now, through the common language of sport to provide a speech to inspire the nation.
These projects increase participation, grow access to sport for disadvantaged groups and provide improved sporting facilities and equipment for our communities.
AUSTRALIAN SPORTS FOUNDATION
In holding the PMSO, the Sports Foundation is highlighting four key cause areas in which philanthropic investment would have a profound impact for the Australian community.
The Australian Sports Foundation currently partners with clubs and sporting organisations in every state and territory, as well as hundreds of aspiring athletes, to raise funds for over 2,500 sporting projects.
THE HON. JULIA GILLARD
As Australia’s first female Prime Minister, Chair of Beyond Blue and the leader of Global Partnership for Education, Ms Gillard is leading the advancement of equality of children’s education in developing countries. This is bringing about a seismic shift in the access to education for young women and men in emerging nations preparing themselves for the 21st century.
By highlighting diversity inclusion, leadership, women in sport and physical activity, this leadership initiative can build the health and wellbeing of our nation.
