What is the Prime Ministers' Sporting Oration?
An initiative of Dr Campbell A. Rose AM, the Prime Ministers' Sporting Oration (PMSO) is a leadership initiative to bring together corporate and philanthropic Australia with the politicians and policy-makers who can influence and shape the future direction of investment in grassroots sport in our nation. Delivered annually in the form of a speech by a former Prime Minister of Australia, the Oration seeks to inspire a movement for change through the nation's common language: sport. In the year following the Oration, funds will be raised via the Australian Sports Foundation (ASF) for the benefit of grassroots sport - allocated to key cause areas nominated for that year.
Who is delivering 2018’s Oration?
The Hon. Julia Gillard AC, Australia's first female and 27th Prime Minister (2010-2013), will deliver the inaugural Oration. Ms Gillard is currently Chair of Beyond Blue and the Global Partnership for Education, a fund aiming to provide equitable educational opportunities for children in developing nations.
When will the first Oration be delivered?
The inaugural PMSO event will take place on the 21st November 2018, at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.
When will the next Oration be delivered?
The PMSO is an annual event, held in the third week of November.

The PMSO is auspiced by, and an event of, the Australian Sports Foundation (ASF). The PMSO is managed by an organising committee selected jointly by the ASF and Dr Campbell A. Rose AM.
Who are the Australian Sports Foundation?
The Australian Sports Foundation was founded by the Federal Government in 1986 and raises money for sport through philanthropic and community donations. It is the only organisation in Australia to have Deductible Gift Recipient status for sport, and since its inception has raised more than $400m for over 2,500 sporting projects.
Who is the Patron of the Prime Ministers’ Sporting Oration?
The inaugural Patron of the PMSO is Dr Susan Alberti AC. 2018's Victorian of the year, Susan heads the Susan Alberti Medical Research Foundation (SAMRF) and is notably recognised within the philanthropic sector for her passion for finding a cure for diabetes. Designated as one 2018's top 100 women of influence by the Australian Financial Review, Susan is also a trailblazer in recognising the benefits of empowering young women through sport, and played a critical role in the realisation of AFLW. In 2017, she received an Award for Leadership from the Australian Institute of Sport, and was Melburnian of the year.
Who are the Organising Committee for the Prime Ministers’ Sporting Oration?
The PMSO is chaired by Dr Campbell A. Rose AM. As Chairman, Campbell brings a credentialed career in organisational development and sporting-based initiatives. Currently Chief Executive of VicTrack, Campbell leads circa 475 employees and manages some $42B in infrastructure and assets that underpin the Victorian Public Transport and Freight System. Our Deputy Chairman is Patrick Walker, CEO of the ASF. Other committee members include: Kee Wong - entrepreneur, businessman and member of the Board of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD); Dave Ellis - managing director of Chocolate Studios, official PMSO branding and design partner; Erica Berchtold - managing director of the Super Retail Group; Abe Thomas - Managing Director of Asset Management at McMillan Shakespeare Ltd, and; Paul White - lead of AusPost's risk division and PMSO treasurer.
Who are the Ambassadors of the Prime Ministers’ Sporting Oration?
Ambassadors for the 2018 PMSO will be appointed by Patron Dr Susan Alberti AC. Their role is to assist in raising awareness of the event and its key causes, contributing to the movement for change and increasing funds raised for grassroots sport.
Where will funds raised by the Prime Ministers’ Sporting Oration go?
Funds raised by the PMSO will be processed via a grant program overseen by the ASF and allocated to key cause areas. In 2018, four key cause areas are being highlighted:
  • Women and girls in sport & equality
  • Physical activity & nutrition
  • Leadership & decision-making
  • Diversity, inclusion & cultural acceptance
How will funds be distributed?
Grassroots and community sporting organisations will be invited from early 2019 to apply for funds through the ASF to support programs that address one or more of the key cause areas. Selected recipients will be required to report back on the impact and outcomes of the program funded through the PMSO. All partners, supporters and donors of the PMSO event will receive periodic communications on the impact of their fundraising.

The Prime Ministers’ Sporting Oration offers three categories of partnering opportunities:

How do I buy a table?
Tables of 10 are included for both Foundation and Event partners to host on the evening. Additional tables of 10 may be purchased at a ticket price of $1,500 (inclusive of GST) with a voluntary tax-deductible donation of $3,500 (not subject to GST). Total cost inclusive of the donation is $5,000 per additional table.
How much of my table purchase is tax deductible?
The voluntary donation of $3,500 per table is tax deductible. A receipt from the Australian Sports Foundation will be issued for all donations received.

More broadly, the Oration will draw attention to the critical role grassroots sport plays in communities around the country. By highlighting the critical nature of the four key cause areas, it will advocate for a broader movement for change.

2018's Master of Ceremonies is Michael Rowland. Michael is an Australian news presenter and journalist who co-hosts ABC's News Breakfast with Virginia Trioli.
What can I expect on the night of the Oration?
Attendees will be treated to a gala dinner, highlighted by a rousing Oration delivered by The Hon. Julia Gillard AC, and the opportunity to network with some of Australia’s most influential business leaders, philanthropists, politicians and decision-makers.
Will it be an auction night?
There will be no auction on the night.
